Mickelson Hiking & Biking Trail
Once you catch up on your relaxing at Newton Fork Ranch, you are ready to enjoy the surrounding area, which abounds with recreational pursuits. We are conveniently located adjacent to the George S. Mickelson Trail. Over a hundred years ago, the old Cheyenne to Deadwood stage ran through Newton Fork Ranch. Later, the Burlington Northern Railroad took its place heading up to Deadwood and the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead. Now, the abandoned railroad tracks have been turned into a popular hiking and biking trail that stretches 109 miles from Deadwood in the north to Edgemont in the south. One can explore the Black Hills on foot, bicycle, horseback, and in winter, on cross county skis and snowshoes. A gate on the property, installed for the exclusive use of our guests, opens directly onto the Mickelson Trail.
